_G104610-02-02-08 It has been a tough month around here. Everyone but me has been sick (sometimes more than once). Carrie had a rough pregnancy month as well, but that has been getting much better. If you are reading the word pregnancy and are now like “What?”. Thats right, we are expecting twins in August, effectively giving us a basketball team with an alternate :) We are very excited and in preparation have been feverishly looking for a new place to live that will hold all of us. Our busy month has left me with very little time for photography (this months album). Something that shouldn’t happen since all I need to do is start carrying it again…hopefully I will pick up the pace again. Anyway we are treading on…livin each day, just like the rest of you. We try our best to carry a smile with us each day and look forward to tomorrow. Til then…

It was a busy month but I think the highlight was the Dan Zanes concert. We got to dance and sing as well as spend a wonderful day together in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. As always we were also busy in Rochester for Kristina’s baby shower, birthday parties, and just hanging out in Boston or the back yard. It was a good month.

On another note I am looking forward to June and the rest of the summer. I am turning 30 along with my best friends Chris and Nate, also Carrie and I have 4 good vacations planned. What more could you ask for? Enjoy the photos.

15 Reasons Mister Rogers Was the Best Neighbor Ever
Mister Rodgers…I don’t think i have thought about him in a long time. I guess there was no reason to, I haven’t seen his show on the air in a while and he has been dead for some time. Then the other day i was up at 6:00am with the kids and the show was on. I couldn’t belive what I was feeling, but I almost missed it, like an old friend. I had flashbacks of being quite young and watching it from my parents livingroom in Hamlin, NY. I just came across this article today and I thought it fitting to post.

Love one another, be kind, and if you had to look up to someone, Mister Rodgers is not a bad hero.

Wow…thats all I have to say about that.

Sometimes both heaven and Earth erupt. In Iceland in 1991, the volcano Hekla erupted at the same time that auroras were visible overhead. Hekla, one of the most famous volcanoes in the world, has erupted at least 20 times over the past millennium, sometimes causing great destruction. The last eruption occurred only six years ago but caused only minor damage. The green auroral band occurred fortuitously about 100 kilometers above the erupting lava. Is Earth the Solar System’s only planet with both auroras and volcanos?

This morning I am riding in to work and on NPR there is a story about the last one-room schoolhouse in the United States; they are closing it. Anyway a woman comes on and starts to preach about our loss of community and its very heartfelt, and somehow I understand what she is saying.

So I walk up the stairs to my office, turn on pandora where I am greeted with Fabolous. Pop open my email and there is a photojojo newsletter which I proceed to read. There is a google hacking article about images and they are describing how to find images by camera maker, etc. I click on the first link and its just an image search for IMG_001.JPG and its then I realize, this is where our communities have gone. I can see hundreds of first pictures. You went to a party, said hello, took a picture, I just saw it.

Now I am over simplifying it a bit but you get my point. We have lost our sense of community and though people have said it before, I am just getting it (or losing it) and I want them back.

I love the online world however I read an article last month about the weight of the internet, turns out it is far far far less than 1g. Hmm, last time I checked the real world was much more substantial.

See you there then.

10 simple ways to save yourself from messing up your life

If you know me at all you know that I should be taking this advice more than dispensing it (most of the time), but since I love to dish it out, take a look at the article. Personally I don’t know if its possible to implement any of these things, though it would be nice. Life is just too hard sometimes, and just knowing that nothing matters isn’t always enough, I have no idea why but take my advice on this one, its not.

How you feel is how you feel. It’ll pass soon. What you’re thinking is what you’re thinking. It’ll go too. Tell yourself that whatever you feel, you feel; whatever you think, you think. Since you can’t stop yourself thinking, or prevent emotions from arising in your mind, it makes no sense to be proud or ashamed of either. You didn’t cause them. Only your actions are directly under your control. They’re the only proper cause of pleasure or shame.

Timothy Leary’s Message to You, Here, Now.

I’d just like to see thinking come back in style. I haven’t heard a new idea in eight years. Let’s get ordinary people arguing and talking again. I want to trigger new circuits in their nervous systems. That’s the philosopher’s job and I am the most important philosopher at this time.

Ahh Tim, the quintisential freaker and anti-all. Sure knew what and when to say the right thing though.

2007 Relay For Life - Carrie’s Donation Page

I wanted to remind everyone that June 9th is almost here. It’s a very important day for Carrie because she will be walking in the Ashland Relay for Life.

Most of you know that Carrie recently had a battle with cervical cancer. I’m happy to let you know that she just had her 3 month retest and everything was fine. We are lucky that this type of cancer is commonly tested for, and can be easily detected and remedied. Our hope is that all forms of cancer can one day be eradicated; she has decided to take part in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Ashland , MA to help raise the funds and awareness necessary to make that happen.

I would love your support for this worthy cause. Contributions are great and we need some crowd members to cheer them on as well. Carrie will be walking with 9 other mom’s who have been affected by cancer and want to make a difference for our children’s futures. She will be walking in two hour shifts for a 24 hour period June 9th and 10th. Please click the link for more details and check out her team members while your there!

Every contribution helps, no matter how big or how small. PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE to donate online (it’s very easy), for information on how to donate via cash or check, or simply for more information about the Relay itself.

Hope to see you there!

Web Visualization
This stuff is amazing. I work in this industry yet I am blown away everyday by new ideas. Frankly its hard to keep your head on straight sometimes.

On another note I was hacked this month for the first time (at least that I know of). Luckily for me it was just a script kiddie who stopped by and no major damage was done, except the flood of udp packets coming from my house for the last few weeks. Ahh the web. I have patched the stupid vulnerability that I myself created (it was an amateur mistake, I am ashamed) and all is well. Til next time.

If you live in the Rochester area and you need a place that will stimulate and educate your child over the summer months, then why not send your child to science camp? My very good friend Chris Widmaier is running just such a camp at RIT this summer. Take a look at the flyer for more information or click on the Contact link and I will put you in touch with him.
